WHAT TO EXPECT
Getting started in therapy can sometimes be a little nerve wracking. Here’s what to expect at Modern Era Counseling each step of the way.
STARTING THE PROCESS
To get started in counseling, simply contact us by phone or shoot us an email by filling out or online contact form.
GETTING MATCHED & SCHEDULED WITH A THERAPIST
Next, our wonderful scheduler, Callie, will gather some basic information about you, recommend a therapist based on your specific needs, and help you schedule your first session. If you plan on using insurance to cover therapy, Callie will also collect your insurance information at this time.
ATTENDING YOUR FIRST SESSION
Once at the office, make yourself comfortable in our waiting room and your therapist will be out to greet you at the time of your session. Feel free to make yourself a cup of tea while you wait!
PREFER TO MEET VIRTUALLY?
All our therapists offer the option to meet online. Simply let us know if this is your preference and we’ll send you a unique link for our secure telehealth platform prior to each session. Your counselor will meet you online at your scheduled appointment time.
Our standard counseling sessions are 50 minutes long. In some cases, we can arrange extended sessions if needed.
Our fees are consistent with other mental health professionals in the area. For current rates and other billing-related information, please visit our fees page.
In most cases, we recommend meeting weekly with your therapist at the start of counseling. In our experience, it’s hard to make meaningful changes in life in two hours (or less) per month. Once you’ve started reaching your goals, your therapist will likely suggest tapering sessions to biweekly and then monthly for a brief period.
How long therapy lasts ultimately depends on your unique situation and goals. Therapy is a process, and we generally recommend committing to a minimum of 10 sessions.
In our experience, it usually takes meeting with a therapist for an actual session to know if it’s a good fit.
