You want to feel secure in who you are and enjoy meaningful relationships with others.

Trouble is, past pains and traumas keep getting in the way.

You long for deeper connection with others, but having been let down so many times in the past, you struggle to trust and be vulnerable in your relationships.

You want to feel loveable and know that you’re “enough,” but shame and self-doubt erode your confidence and make you feel inadequate.

Feeling stuck in life is bad enough, but worse still is the feeling that you’re all alone in what you’re going through.

But you’re not alone.

With the right help, you can move on from the past and open new doors for meaningful growth to occur.

Jhane' Johnson - Modern Era Counseling, Charlotte, NC

Hi, I'm Jhane'

I help young adults move from pain and heartache to strength and self-love.

If you're here because...

  • It’s hard for you talk about painful stuff from your past
  • You can’t seem to shake the feeling that you’re not enough
  • You’re fearful of letting your guard down around others
  • You feel lost in managing big emotions, like sadness, shame, and self-doubt
  • You’re tired of short-lived and surface-level relationships with friends and romantic partners

I can help you...

  • Process painful events from the past in a way that feels safe and productive
  • Root out negative self-beliefs and build lasting self-esteem
  • Feel more confident in being your most authentic self
  • Develop effective tools and strategies for navigating difficult emotions
  • Connect more deeply with others and build more rewarding relationships

What's it like to work with me?

Some therapists see themselves as the leader and expect you to follow their lead. This is not my approach. I view us as teammates working toward a shared set of goals–yours. You’ll share what’s important and I’ll provide insight and feedback along the way to help you reach those goals.

Even though therapy is a serious journey, my sessions consistently include laughter and fun. Life can be rough, but therapy doesn’t have to be. Don’t get me wrong, I’m committed to doing real and meaningful work with you, but I seldom pass up an opportunity to make you smile. I want to create a dynamic where you can be free, expressive, and prosperous, and my expressive personality opens up the door for you to be unapologetically yourself.

I believe honesty is an essential part of effective therapy, so I am committed to always being direct and keeping it real with you. There will be times I will challenge you, but I’ll also check in with you regularly to ensure our conversations are moving at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I also understand that you’re a busy, hard-working adult who plays many roles, so therapy may not be a long-term journey for you. Whether you’re seeking therapy to help with a minor concern, a major concern that needs immediate help, or just need support through a transitional period in your life, therapy doesn’t have to last years to be effective. As a solution-focused therapist, I believe concise therapy can still achieve monumental results.

My door is open and accepting to unique and diverse populations. Because everyone is different, transparency is necessary for me to best meet your needs.

Why I became a therapist

I became a therapist to become a part of the change I wanted to see in the world. When I was growing up, mental health was not discussed or accepted in my community. I have always believed that seeking support for mental health concerns should not be frowned upon–and that people who are facing challenges should have a safe space to share their experiences, without judgment. As a therapist, I am committed to empowering and uplifting those who feel powerless or do not have supportive people in their lives. I know we all have the power to change and evolve. I want to help provide the tools for people to build their dream selves from the inside out, one person at a time.

Off the clock

I find home organization to be very relaxing. I love to clean and rearrange spaces. I also enjoy traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. And when I’m not away from home, I love being a dog-mom to my Yorkie.

You know you are better than what you’ve been through. Together, we will reveal a healthier, loving version of yourself and put you on track toward reaching your full potential.
